Which kind of things (Obstacles) preventing the player from achievement his goal. In most popular games, these obstacles are a combination of environment and enemies. The environment separates the player from his goal with locked doors, death traps,maze-like pathways, and so on.Enemies are usually placed in the player’s path as moving obstacles that he must overcome.
Keep it simple at firs. Draw the space of the space you want to use. draw where the player start and where different obstacles .Draw any environmental obstacles, like mazes, rivers of lava, walls, gates, doors, and so on.
Keep In Mind : :
- Levels are innately closed areas : Players dislike when they forced only one path. The secret is you need open choices to player select his path.
- You are experienced with your game engine. Limit the number of enemies your player can fight at once to around 4-5 or fewer. Some engine better perform with many enemies.
- Make notes on the map, detailing where lights may be coming from.
- Make more notes on the map : spelling out what the player encounters in each area.

- It tells other people working on your level exactly what you want to create.
The formatting of a design document is pretty much up to you. You make it simple for everyone to read out it.
Make it as plain-spoken as possible.
Make it as linear as possible. Describe the level in linear terms.
Make Documentation is complete as possible.
Include many references as you can. Create Maps, reference movies, pate pictures etc.
